AMR Solutions from H2OnGUARD

July 2020

During the Covid-19 Lockdown Pinpoint has been remotely monitoring and detecting water leaks in real-time successfully for our clients with H2OnGUARD, we detected and repaired these leaks with minimal to no water loss or damage to their properties.

H2OnGUARD is an AMR (automatic meter reading) software, enabling property owners, tenants or managers to know precisely per hour what water is being consumed, wasted, lost or even stolen via their smart phone, tablet or desktop and provide accurate data for monthly billing. The solution is beneficial for both the end consumer and for the Municipality.

Some examples of leak data, detected and repaired:

Burst hot water cylinder – 45 litres per hours.

Burst water mains detected – 835 litres per hour.

Burst water mains detected – 1030 litres per hour.

Leaking toilet detected – 233 litres per hour.

Water Management, Leak Detection and Repairs

April 2020

Client: Avalon Estate, Durbanville.

A great initiative from Avalon Estate making use of the best technology and service available to monitor, detect and repair water leaks to prevent water loss, save our water resources and return money back into their pockets.

System Installed:

Zednet permanently installed AMR (automatic meter reading) system monitoring water meters without human intervention.

Situation:

Pinpoint installed the AMR system for the client to manage the water delivered to and distributed throughout  the estate, the system flagged a loss that grew to 800 litres per hour, an approximate loss of 595 kilolitre’s per month.

Solution:

Pinpoint conducted a leak detection survey and found multiple leaks and burst pipes, all faults were repaired immediately and the flow chart results on the AMR system returned to normal thereafter.
Water loss that remains undetected causes damages to infrastructure, increases water bills significantly and depletes an already  scarce resource.

AMR Flow Log results for Avalon Estate.

WINT Water Intelligence scoops gold at Insurance Times Awards for their AI-powered leak prevention technology

28 January 2020

Leading water intelligence technology provider WINT Water Intelligence has won the gold award at the prestigious Insurance Times Awards in London.

The gold award for the Excellence in Technology – Claims category went to WINT’s artificial-intelligence-powered solution, which lets insurers, facilities managers, construction and building services contractors reduce water damage risk and claims. WINT Water Intelligence, a leader in water management, analysis and leak prevention, picked up the award alongside one of the their U.K. partners – Aqualytics – which provides on-the-ground customer service for WINT technology.

WINT’s technology helps construction projects, existing buildings and estates and newly built facilities to avoid water damage-related claims by identifying anomalies, leaks and waste at the source, alerting facilities managers and shutting off water supplies when necessary.

The U.K. Society of Claims Professionals states in “Escape of Water – Good Practice Guide for Claims Professionals” (January 2019) that “escape of water” has become a common and significant issue. According to the Association of British Insurers, the total cost of escape of water claims has increased year on year by 28%, and insurers are paying out nearly $5.1 million per day on claims in the U.K. alone.

The Excellence in Technology – Claims category recognizes solutions that improve internal and external operational and administrative claims processes in the insurance market. The Judges, made up of some of the most respected leaders in the insurance market, were looking for tangible evidence that technology has improved operational efficiencies, claims processes, customer services, and business administration.

The judges described WINT as “a cool product – honest, clear and knows the market. We need something like this in our businesses.”

WINT uses artificial intelligence and pattern matching to detect water leaks and waste. It continuously learns and adapts to a building’s water network to ensure detection and prevention are optimized for each site. WINT devices are fully autonomous and will continue to operate even regardless of network coverage.

In addition to preventing water leak damage, WINT also detects and alerts staff of ongoing waste, from such sources as malfunctioning devices and unnoticed non-damaging leaks. Organizations that use WINT report savings of 20% to 25% of their ongoing water consumption, helping them reduce their environmental footprint and improve their sustainability stance.

“The insurance sector has been suffering a massive financial impact from the rise in water damage claims,” said Alon Geva, CEO of WINT. “We’re proud to be recognized by Insurance Times as a leader in helping the industry reduce this tremendous source of risk with innovation and smart technology.”

WINT solutions are successfully deployed at thousands of locations worldwide. Reducing the risk of major property damage from burst pipes and undetected leaks has enabled organizations to avoid costly water damage, lost productivity, and increased insurance premiums while reducing their ongoing water consumption and environmental footprint.

A new By-Law was passed in October 2018 regarding the metering of supplied water in the City of Cape Town.

CITY OF CAPE TOWN

PUBLIC NOTICE IN TERMS OF SECTION 28 OF THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN

WATER BY-LAW 2010 AND THE WATER AMENDMENT BY-LAW, 2018

Metering of water supplied

Metering of municipal drinking water is a legal requirement, in terms of the Water Services Act, 1997 and therefor it is compulsory for a water

services institution, in this case, the City of Cape Town, to ensure that it complies and in turn its citizens comply, through local By-Laws, viz, the

Water By-Law, 2010 and the Water Amendment By-Law, 2018.

One cannot manage the conservation and demand of water without, amongst others, metering and proper record keeping. It is therefor important

that each unit in multi-dwelling, commercial and industrial premises must have a private sub-meter and a private isolating valve. This required

standard practise will also assist in the realisation of Section 28(22) and (23) of the Water Amendment By-Law, 2018.

The Director: Water and Sanitation of the City of Cape Town hereby gives notice on the matters detailed herein.

Multi-dwelling, commercial and industrial premises having no private sub-meters and no isolating valves installed:

Within two calendar years (24 months) from publication of this notice, the afore-mentioned premises must comply with Section 28(21):

‘‘(21) Where [the Director has installed] a [single] meter as contemplated in subsection (20)[(a)] is installed, the owner, [or the] person in charge

or management of the premises must install and maintain on each branch pipe [extending from the communication pipe] to the different

[accommodation] units—

(a) [a separate meter] an isolating valve; and[and]

(b) [an isolating valve] a water management device, prepayment meter or a private sub-meter,

and will be liable to the City for payment of the prescribed charges for all water supplied to the premises through such a meter, irrespective of the

different quantities consumed by the different consumers served by such meter’’.

Multi-dwelling, commercial and industrial premises having isolating valves but no private sub-meters:

Within one calendar year (12 months) from publication of this notice, the afore-mentioned properties must comply with Section 28(21):

‘‘(21) Where [the Director has installed] a [single] meter as contemplated in subsection (20)[(a)] is installed , the owner, [or the] person in charge

or management of the premises must install and maintain on each branch pipe [extending from the communication pipe] to the different

New multi–dwelling developments post – promulgation of the Water Amendment By-Law, 2018:

Building plans submitted after the date of promulgation of the Water Amendment By-Law, 2018, must comply with Section 28(21) forthwith:

‘‘(21) Where [the Director has installed] a [single] meter as contemplated in subsection (20)[(a)] is installed , the owner, [or the] person in charge

or management of the premises must install and maintain on each branch pipe [extending from the communication pipe] to the different
